Welcome!
We'd like to welcome you to the new website for The Singers Elite Vocal Big Band. But what exactly is a vocal big band? Read on to find out!
A New Way to Experience Jazz
The photo above tells part of the story - The Singers Elite Vocal Big Band is not just one of the hottest, but it is also certainly one of the most unique new acts in the world of jazz entertainment. Imagine what would happen if you took the horns and strings of a big band and replaced them entirely with skilled vocalists; you are now imagining the Singers Elite Vocal Big Band.
A total of 22 musicians make up the orchestra, comprising 13 singers covering the usual complement of horns, 5 covering the strings and vocal group writing, and 4 top flight instrumentalists - guitar, piano, bass and drums, providing a "Count Basie"-style rhythm section. The resulting huge, lush sound is enchanting to all those who have heard it. The repertoire is classic big band - In The Mood, April In Paris, Sing, Sing, Sing, Serenade In Blue, Chattanooga Choo Choo, Mood Indigo, I'll Never Smile Again, Moonlight Serenade, Skyliner, Li'l Darlin', Tuxedo Junction, On The Sunny Side Of The Street ... exact re-creations of the original classics, presented in an entirely new and unique way.
There have been recordings like this in the past - "singing" the horn parts to big band arrangements - but it's never been done live before. One of the most notable recordings of this kind was done by the Swingle Singers in 1979. Ward Swingle provided us with his arrangements from that album and supervised the additional charts added to the repertoire.
Whether you need a headliner, an opening act, or something to fill in at the last minute, The Singers Elite Vocal Big Band is fresh, exciting, and guaranteed to set the house on fire. We look forward to bringing our show to you.
